01/04/2005 - The new kitesurfing season starts

No it isn't an April Fool's Day joke - the new season has now gone into full swing and plenty of students were out enjoying the fresh air - sunshine interspersed with fog and generally having a great time.

James was probably wondering where he was half the time on Friday and the early part of Saturday. He was supposed to be teaching kitesurfing lessons but instead he was acting as a fog beacon trtying to make sure people didn't run into each other on the beach.

After a while though the fog cleared away and we were left with some lovely wind and the Whitstable shallows to play in. Huge kudos go to the 3-day course guys, Rob, Glenn, Peter and Geoff who got out there when the conditions weren't perfect for kitesurfing but got on with it regardless. They got the benefits though because when every one else was scrambling around trying to get kitted up when the wind switched direction the boys were getting all of it.

Surprise of Sunday had to go to Claire, who thanks to a lucky cancellation got to come out with us in the water after sitting on the beach watching for a couple of days. She also managed to do very well considering she'd never touched a kite or board in her life - we hope to see her back down soon.

The greatest part of the weekend however was the water temperature which has come up loads in the last couple of weeks make it a very pleasant experience indeed. Not all of us were silly enough to go in with their wetsuit around their waist [James!] but we weren't far off after being in the sun for a few hours. There were plenty of red faces and smiles at the end though and that is what counts...
