30/07/2004 - Packdown Central

South westerlies always cause trouble - particularly here at Whitstable where it is ever-so-slightly cross-offshore. In the space of only 2 days though we had kites falling out of the sky and people rescuing themselves [or not in some cases - you know who you are!] all over the place. There was definitely something in the water.

The guilty parties were [in no particular order] Lance [admittedly trying a handle-pass], Dendy [who was being washed out - were it not for Policeman James and Andrew picking him up - you still owe us a pint Dendy] and Sarah [having to tie her kite off to a buoy and swim in].

Don't worry though, our illustrious instructors caught the bug as well with Andrew [deciding to go out on Mark's kite with virtually no wind then showing half a dozen students what a deep water packdown for real looks like] and GeorgeD [losing a board then losing his kite] deciding they would join the "packdown club".

Everyone managed to recover themselves and their kit back to the beach though so well done as it shows the importance of knowing how to get yourself out of a sticky spot.
