14/11/2004 - Tell the coastguard if you lose some kit

Andrew has just spent some time today giving a talk to Kent and East Sussex coast guards about how to assist kitesurfers when they go down in the water. The good news for everyone is that the coast guard are very supportive about kitesurfing in general and are pleased with how we conduct ourselves in Kent in particular.

Something they did ask though is that if your kite flies off or your lose a board, please report it to the coastguard immediately. Dial 999 or call the local office if you have the number and tell them what happened, where and which direction the kite or board was going when last you saw it.

This follows on the heels of a couple of incidents where they have found kites in particular but no riders attached. It's nice to know that they will scramble a helicopter to look for us if we are reported missing, but not so good if it is a wasted trip which a phone call would have averted.

Keep these guys on side and we will keep our beaches open for use.
